The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to his deceased wife.
Approximately 20,000 men worked on the Taj Mahal, the whole process taking 20 years to complete. It is a well-known myth that after the completion of its construction, Emperor Shah Jahan ordered all of the workers hands to be amputated so that no one could ever replicate its beauty.
The Taj Mahal is made out of white marble from the quarries. Allegedly, 1000 elephants were used to transport the marble to the construction site.
The inner decor of the Taj Mahal used 28 kinds of rare, semi-precious and precious stones that are no longer there, vanished after plundering in various wars.
Everything about the Taj Mahal is perfectly symmetrical except for the two tombs located inside. The male tomb is larger than the female one.

Before I go into this, I would say that Brad and I went into the day thinking that we would actually be disappointed by the Taj. There have been several sights along our trip which have disappointed us and they have generally been some of the most advertised.
