Quick Description
The Serengeti Migration is a yearlong movement of over 2,000,000 wildebeest, zebras and other animals through East Africa. These animals move in a fairly predictable pattern throughout the year seeking fresh grazing and better quality water.
Why AbsoluteVisit #4?
The migration is the largest movement of mammals on the planet. Where else in the world can you see thousands of massive animals spread across vast plains in every direction with the plain human eye? Witnessing the Serengeti Migration will leave you screaming "Holy Sh*t" over and over again inside of your head. It is guaranteed to be the single greatest encounter with animals in your life.

Quick Facts & History

  • When the seasons change in the Serengeti, thousands of species such as wildebeest and zebra embark on a dangerous migration in search of green food and better living conditions.
  • It is a dangerous journey as it draws the attention of many predators. It is estimated that around 250,000 wildebeest alone die during the migration.
  • As the herds attempt to cross the Grumeti and Mara River, crocodiles await them, preying on the weak and the young that get separated or struggle in the strong currents.

Usually I am somewhat quiet as I observe AbsoluteVisits. However, while watching the migration I kept finding myself unconsciously speaking. For the entire hour that we spent deep in the middle of the Serengeti Migration, not a minute went by where I didn’t blurt out to Will “Holy Shit! Dude! Holy Shit!” I’ll take an hour of “Holy Shits!” as a strong indicator of satisfaction and amazement. Several times I looked over at Will to make sure he was still watching, almost to say – “Are you seeing what I am seeing? This is absolutely incredible”!...  read more
