This 2 million square foot (185,806 sq. meter) museum in New York City is actually comprised of 26 different structures and houses over 2 million objects as old as 300,000-75,000 B.C.
The buildings in which the collections are housed are owned by the City of New York; however, the collections themselves are all owned by a private corporation of about 950 different benefactors.
The Metropolitan Museum has over 90 restrooms.
A museum of this size goes through a lot of supplies and utilities in one calendar year, such as: 15,000 light bulbs, 2,100 gallons of floor cleaner, 40 cases of gum remover, and 1,125 gallons of carpet cleaner!
There is not set price to visit the Metropolitan Museum. Visitors are told to pay whatever they like, however; all visitors must pay something, even if it is only a penny.
