Strategically located in the Pennine Alps on the boarder between Switzerland and Italy, this tall mountain stands 4,478 ft. in the clear sky. It's one of the highest peaks in the Alps and its four steep faces actually face the four compass points. Rising 14,692 feet (4,478 meters), the Matterhorn is the tenth highest mountain in Switzerland. Its four faces each face the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, and West.
Averaging 12 deaths a year, the Matterhorn has claimed the lives of over 500 climbers for various reasons such as inexperience, bad weather, and falling rocks.
The Matterhorn has made an appearance in two Warner Brothers cartoons: Pikes Peaker, and A Scent of the Matterhorn, starring Bugs Bunny and Pepe Le Pew, respectively.
Disneyland in California has created a 1/100 scale replica of the Matterhorn featuring a ride called Matterhorn Bobsleds.
