Kathmandu valley holds a plethora of museums, ancient temples and shrines and golden pagodas all totaling up to over 130 important monuments, as well as holding several important pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists.
The oldest known building in the valley is 1,992 years old!
Legend has it that Kathmandu city was once a lake and that God Manjusri cut a gorge with a sword and drained away all of the lake water in order to establish a new land.
