It's mentioned in the Bible and if God gives it free publicity, it merits the trip.

Commonly known as the Old City, it is actually a small patch of land surrounded by walls within today's modern Jerusalem. Until 1860, this was the city. With over 3,000 years of history, it was home to the Jebusites and divided into 4 sections. It was the capital to King David's kingdom, where Abraham bound Isaac, and where the dream of Jacob's ladder took place. No other city has such a prominent role in history, culture and religion. Within its small space are held sites of key religious importance, all worthy to be our #23.

Known to be the oldest and holiest city in the world, Jerusalem Old Citys history dates all the way back to the 4th millennium B.C.
One of the main claims to fame for this city is the rumored location of the crucifixion of Jesus, which is in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher at a spot called the Golgotha. This church site is also allegedly where Jesus is buried.
Another famous spot within the Old City is the wailing wall, an area once known as Solomon Temple but is now stuffed with scribbled messages to God hidden behind the stones.
There are eight gates into Jerusalem Old City, one of which is believed by many Jews to be the gate through which the Messiah will enter into Jerusalem one day. The original gates of the city are angled so that they can only be entered by making a sharp 90-degree angle turn. This was to prevent enemies from entering the city on horseback at fast speeds, as well as to prevent enemies from using battering rams to bust down the gates.

Our next stop within the Old City was the Church of the Holy Sepulchure (where Jesus was resurrected). Upon entering the Church is the stone (The Stone of Anointing) where Jesus� body was prepared for burial he Church was beautiful and ancient. The church itself seems to built within the walls of stone with side rooms often time resembling large caves. Many of the decoration was elaborate with gold paint and metal.
