You'll walk on water to get there.

Almost. The temple is surrounded by a lake with fish and (supposedly) holy water. Either way, it's impressive in beauty and significance. The name is actually outdated; it has been known as Harmandir Sahib since 2005, but Golden Temple still feels appropriate since they added 10 kg of gold to the lotus-shaped dome. The temple is still in use and considered the holiest shrine in Sikhism. Make sure you remove your shoes, wash your feet and cover your head before entering - and prepare to be mystified.

The Golden Temple is considered to be one of the holiest and most blessed places in India, as well as being one of the oldest places of worship for the Sikhs. There are four different entrances to the temple (one on each side), which is meant to represent openness and acceptance.
There are three holy trees at the Golden Temple.
The top of the Golden Temple is made entirely of gold, using up approximately 100 kg (220 lbs) of gold.
Within the Golden Temple is a dining hall called Guru-ka-Langar which feeds around 35,000 people every day for free with the help of volunteers.

The Golden Temple was built in 1601 and is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion. It is also a major tourist attraction and is considered by many to be one of the top 100 sites to see in the world.
