The Golden Gate Bridge

#91 - San Francisco, USA

Do You Dream?
Many went half way to hell to complete it.
The halfway-to-hell club was the name given to the 19 men whose lives were saved by the safety net suspended under the floor of the bridge from end to end during construction. The Golden Gate Bridge is our #91 because it is not only the iconic symbol of San Francisco, but it's a marvel of architecture and engineering. Even though it's not made out of gold, it gets its name from John. C. Fremont since it reminded him of a harbor in Istanbul nicknamed Golden Horn.

Brad & Will's Quick Thoughts

The Golden Gate Bridge is famous around the world for its rusted red spires that connect the Northern tip of the peninsula holding the city of San Francisco with the hills of Marin that the bridge seemingly disappears into. This bridge is iconic for many reasons - its history, its color, its classic beauty, and of course the city that surrounds it.

One of the most fantastic parts of the Golden Gate Bridge is that there are tons of ways to experience its beauty! Regardless of how you choose to experience the bridge- by foot, by boat, by bike, or otherwise- you will leave with an everlasting impression that gives you the understanding of why this bridge has been, and remains to be, one of the most famous in the world.

We have had the pleasure of being in San Francisco dozens of times and have experienced the bridge in many conditions and from many perspectives, each time, of course, with its own feelings and beauty attached. This AbsoluteVisit is one that will leave you feeling connected to San Francisco just as it connects the two disparate pieces of land between it.

  • During construction of the bridge, there was a net suspended below to protect workers that ended up saving 19 lives; those workers whose lives were saved were named part of the Halfway to Hell Club.
