Photo of the Day – Whitehaven Beach Southern View – Whitsunday Islands, Australia

Whitehaven beach is often ranked as one of the top beaches in the world. Truth be told, before I visited this beach, I had never heard of it. I got a chance to check out this beach pretty briefly while on a trip to the Whitsunday Islands off the North East coast of Australia.

This beach is famous for its white sand which comes from the fact that the sand is 98% silica. The silica also makes for a very comfortable walk as it’s not as gritty as sand and does not retain heat, meaning it’s a nice cool temperature on your feet

This photo was taken from a lookout that you pass through on your way to the beach which gave us a pretty good view of just how huge this beach is. Whitehaven beach is big, very big, but also seems very remote and difficult to get to. Perhaps this is for the best. Otherwise there would be rows upon rows of resorts built on it for sure.
