Standing close to fifty meters tall, the main temples of
Tikal are impressive considering they were constructed over two-thousand years ago. I visited the large Mayan archaeological site located in northeastern Guatemala back in 2006. While walking around this ancient kingdom I found my brain sporadically flashing images out of Mel Gibson’s Mayan masterpiece
Apocolypto. I pictured thousands of Mayan’s going about their daily life in the thick Guatemalan forest that surrounds this powerful kingdom.
Sometimes it is hard for me to comprehend what life was like for people living on our planet thousands of years ago. Sitting here with my grande Starbucks mocha typing out my thoughts on my computer, I feel so far removed from the basic human life that the Mayans and others lived. Wouldn’t it be interesting to make a list of the Top 100 Places you would like to travel back in time to?
