Photo of the Day – Thai Curry at the Local Market – Ko Samui, ThailandThailand has some of the best food in the world. The amazing flavor and spice in the seemingly endless curry dishes can make our normal American fare taste rather bland.
When you first visit Thailand you might find yourself initially shocked by how mild the curry tastes. This is because all of restaurants frequented by tourists have toned down the spice in their dishes to cater to the typical tourist taste buds. Unfortunately this yields curry that just flat out tastes bad.
If you want the real thing, and you should because it is far better than the tourist stuff, you need to head to the local markets. Sure the curries have been sitting out by the side of a dirt road all day. Yes there are flies swarming around the dishes playing an endless game of hopscotch between varieties. However, once you manage to get past your fears, you will enjoy some of the best curries you’ve ever had in your life!
Photo of the Day – Smiling Buddha – Ko Samui, ThailandWill and I set off on a day trip in 2010 to tour the full island of Ko Samui, Thailand, on scooters. We had finished touring all of our planned sites when out of the corners of our eyes we caught this massive Buddha complex off the side of the road. We hit the brakes and headed over to check it out. We hadn’t heard of this place while researching the area. It appeared to be newly constructed and, frankly, it was in the middle of nowhere. A very weird religious site in my opinion, but the camera does not discriminate. I love this picture.
What is it about Buddhas that make them so photogenic?
