I got to check out the Philae Temple before we started our Nile River cruise. Philae Temple is actually built on the Island of the Goddess Isis and was constructed around 350 BCE. An interesting fact about this temple is that it was submerged under water due to a dam that was put in place in the early 1900s, but was re-opened around 1980 once the high dam was completed.
The number, size, and intricacy of the columns in this temple are fairly mind numbing regardless of the fact that it was rescued by UNESCO. The temple was a great start to what turned out to be one of the most fascinating tours I have ever been on.
