Photo of the Day – Peruvian Sand Dunes – Huacachina, Peru

I bet if I showed this picture to 100 people, nobody would be able to guess where it was from. Where do you think it is from (did you cheat and read the title)? I took this photo atop these massive sand dunes near a small town called Huacachina in southeastern Peru.

When I think about Peru, generally the lush green mountains surrounding Machu Picchu and the Amazon Rainforest comes to mind. Desert like dunes certainly don’t. However, riding around in fast buggys atop these dunes was an incredible experience and a great reminder of just how diverse countries can be!
