Photo of the Day – Mountainside Homes of Lima – Lima, Peru

This is one of the first pictures Brad and I took on our around-the-world trip in 2009 and 2010. We were attending a bull fight in Lima, Peru, at Plaza de Acho and I remember spotting this while looking behind the stadium from our seats. Our seats were in the “nose bleeds” which gave us a pretty nice view of the neighborhoods behind the stadium.

These neighborhoods remind me a lot of the Brazilian favelas that cling to the mountains and hillsides around Rio de Janeiro. Similar to these houses in Lima, they are brightly colored, very close to each other and almost give the illusion that they are built on top of one another. In fact, many of them are! It’s a shame that there aren’t some neighborhoods around the US this colorful regardless of the class of citizen living in the homes.
