Las Ramblas is a beautiful tree-lined pedestrian street in Barcelona. As you walk down the promenade you notice that there are many historical buildings and interesting sites off on the side streets. Streets are always packed from morning until evening and definitely are a must-visit if you are touring Barcelona.
I took this shot with my Nikon 18-200mm lens fully extended to 200mm. A lot of my best shots are taken by stepping far back from my subject and then using a high powered telephoto lens. This creates two creative effects that I love. First, it reduces depth of field (similar to shooting at larger apertures – smaller f-stop numbers). Additionally, it creates compression distortion which essentially makes all of the near and distant objects in the photo appear closer together. Compression distortion works particularly well when taking pictures of long crowded streets (it makes them look much more crowded) and also when taking pictures of mountains (it makes the mountains hover over the foreground objects). Try it out!
