Photo of the Day – Cruise Ship at Glacier Bay Nat. Park – Glacier Bay, Alaska, USA

A trip to Alaska was always something I wanted to do and I got the chance to be there last May. One of the critical decisions when traveling to Alaska is whether to take a cruise or simply to go at it on your own. Naturally, Brad and I decided to go at it on our own and we combined Anchorage, Seward, Denali, Juneau and Glacier Bay or an unforgettable trip.

Glacier Bay itself is very remote and as we took off on our 100+ passenger boat, I knew we were in for a treat as we approached this ice chunk filled bay and massive glacier. As I was very focused on the front of our boat as we approached, I quickly noticed a giant cruise ship coming up on our side quickly and in no time, passing us to make its way closer to the glacier.

What I really like about this picture is that having the cruise ship in the picture helps to give you, the viewer, a sense of the immense size of the surrounding mountains and glacier. Cruise ships are huge, massive, gargantuan. Now, take a look at the size of the glacier – which was further away – compared to the cruise ship. Hard to imagine, but this place really does exist.
