Photo of the Day – Vietnamese Encounter – Cu Chi Tunnels – Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The Cu Chi Tunnels were used by Viet Cong guerillas during the Vietnam War to gain a key competitive advantage over the American resistance. Today this expansive network of tunnels has turned into one of the largest tourist attractions in southern Vietnam.

I took this picture back in 2010 while on a tour of the tunnels outside of Ho Chi Minh City. I remember the tunnels were dark, hot, and my long legs were making traversing through the narrow tunnels and keeping up with our Vietnamese guide very difficult. At one point the he looked back at me to see why I was trailing so far behind his pace. I can’t imagine how this scene would have played out fifty years earlier.
